State Rep. Richard Nelson will speak at Press Club on Oct. 3
State Rep. Richard Nelson, R-Mandeville, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Oct. 3. He will talk about his push to eliminate the state income tax and other changes he would like to see made to tax policy.
Press Club meets on Mondays in the ballroom at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the Drusilla Shopping Center at Drusilla Drive and Jefferson Hwy. Lunch, which is a sit-down meal served at 12:15 p.m., is $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Juvenile justice expert will speak at Press Club on Sept. 19
Aaron Clark-Rizzio, the executive director for the Louisiana Center for Children's Rights, will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Sept. 19. He will talk about the ongoing issues in the Louisiana Office for Juvenile Justice and, specifically, the plan to move incarcerated youth to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. Clark-Rizzio's organization provides legal representation to underage people in the juvenile justice system, including those who could be moved to Angola.

East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Sept. 12. She will discuss the summer of hope initiative and the overall efforts to combat crime in the city and parish.

No Press Club on Sept. 5
The Press Club of Baton Rouge will not meet on Monday, Sept. 5, because of the Labor Day holiday. Weekly luncheon meetings will resume on Sept. 12 at the Drusilla Seafood Restaurant. At that meeting the price of lunch for nonmembers will increase from $25 to $30.
LSU climatologist will speak at Press Club on Aug. 29
On Aug. 29, the 17th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina coming ashore, the speaker for the Press Club of Baton Rouge luncheon meeting will be LSU geology professor and climatologist Jill Trepanier.
Trepanier is certified to fly into the middle of a hurricane and trained with the United States Marine Corps. At LSU she teaches classes on geography, meteorology, hurricane climatology and tropical atmospheres. Her research focuses on predicting the location hurricanes will make landfall, when they will make landfall and the severity of the storm at that point.

Southern University political scientist Albert Samuels will be the guest speaker at the Press Club of Baton Rouge on Monday, Aug. 15. Samuels, who is the chair of the Department of Political Science and Geography, will discuss the outlook for the midterm elections.

Family Forum's Gene Mills will speak at Press Club on Aug. 8
Gene Mills, founder of the Louisiana Family Forum, will recap the 2022 Legislative session, assess the midterm elections and the ban on abortion in Louisiana after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Roe vs. Wade decision making abortion available in every state since 1973.
